At the heart of EMACSYS is the cotrol module. This runs the appware and communicates with the interface and downloader applications via the USB port. Peripherals are connected via 10 way headers to this board. Two on board LEDs provide application dependent status information.
The module has 16 digital inputs which have pull up resistors to the internal 3 Volt power rail. This means that they are suitable for either clean contacts or external 0 - 3.3 Volt logic.
The 16 digital outputs are open collector darlington drivers suitable for driving loads of up to 50mA such as relays, small motors or displays.
8 Analogue inputs measure in the range 0 to 3.3 Volt with 10 bit accuracy and use the internal 3 Volt rail as the reference. In some appware the analogue inputs are used as general purpose digital I/O.
All I/O can be connected to terminal block or other EMACSYS peripherals.
Other peripherals, such as the Ethernet module, connect to dedicated connectors and provision has been made for planned future modules.
The Ethernet module provides network connectivity to the EMACSYS system. Two LEDs on the RJ45 connector show the network status.
The module has a 128K byte EEPROM which holds the MAC address and can store web pages and other appware related data.
The main EMACSYS module is able to detect the presence of the module and warn if it is not correctly attached.
Power is supplied from the EMACSYS control module through the 10 way ribbon connector.
The Modem Module adds GSM / GPRS connectivity to the system.
Provision is made for a SIM card which is not supplied.
The main EMACSYS module is able to detect the presence of the module and warn if it is not correctly attached.
An SMA connector is provided on a flying lead for connection to an antenna.
Connection to the main control module is via a 10 way ribbon connector
Each input is connected to the corresponding + terminal and each - terminal is connected to the EMACSYS 0 Volt line. This makes it suitable for direct connection to clean contacts.
While primarily intended as a digital input connector it can also be used with analogue inputs and digital outputs.
Each output is connected to a single terminal. A common 0V line is provided which is connected to the EMACSYS 0 Volt line.
While primarily intended as a digital output connector it can also be used with analogue inputs and digital inputs.
8 relays are provided each of which is connected to a corresponding output.
Each relay has a single set of changeover contacts.
Contact rating is 1 Amp at 24V d.c. / 110V a.c.
Power is supplied from the EMACSYS control module through the 10 way ribbon connector.
Each of the 8 LEDs are connected to a corresponding output.
This module can be used as a general purpose display module but it also very useful for testing and set up.
Power is supplied from the EMACSYS control module through the 10 way ribbon connector.
This module has 8 opto isolators which can be used to drive the digital inputs.
It can be used where active inputs which have a greater input range that the EMACSYS 3.3 Volt maximum. It can also be used in areas of high levels of electrical noise.
This module provides RS232 connectivity to the EMACSYS system.
The RS232 output connector is a 9 pin male D Type.
Hardware handshaking is not supported.
Power is supplied from the EMACSYS control module through the 10 way ribbon connector.
The Analogue Input Terminal is designed to be used with the analogue inputs on the Control module.
Each input is connected via a jumper to a 10K ohm resistor to the internal 3.3 Volt supply rail. This makes it suitable for direct connection to passive sensors such as thermistors, position indicators etc.
A suitable thermistor for temperature measurement is also available.
